Director

Matthew Meschede is a director who grew up in Northwest Indiana (affectionately known as “The Region”) and currently splits time between Los Angeles and Chicago, creating documentary-style pieces and comedic commercials.

Matthew sees the world lightly and has always loved to make others laugh. As a young owner of SNL’s Best of Chris Farley VHS and a fan of Jim Carrey, he learned the art of physical comedy and staked his claim as the class clown. Upon moving to Chicago after school, Matthew enjoyed time at improv classes, and began to create short films and commercials with comedians.

He has a passion for food that goes back to cooking family recipes with his parents, eventually graduating to creating “Nacho Mountain” by himself after school. He was the food critic for the school paper in 7th grade and one of his main influences has been Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations, which sparked his interest in discovering culture around the world through food. That interest took him into the kitchen as a filmmaker, creating mini-doc videos with a talented ground of Chicago chefs and artists.

Matthew has found great joy in capturing the stories of people that make this world a special place to be, documenting Daily Planet’s charitable “Giveashi*t” pop-ups, helping create the “Above and Beyond Gala Video” and following Chicago chef / artist Won Kim on adventures around the country in his “Sleeping is for Suckers” series.

His love for food and comedy have channeled its way into his work in many ways, and have even combined through projects like “Tony B’s Steak Chips” and his comedy short “Sweet Dream.”

For Matthew, directing has been a lifelong dream and an opportunity he appreciates getting to do whenever possible. Whether it’s brainstorming on ideas, capturing the magic on set or searching for the perfect song, he loves the whole process of filmmaking and working closely with others to bring ideas to life.
